hanbok stamp series

These illustrated stamps are part of a series that aims to raise money for Korean-American culture awareness. As an Asian American, it is important to me to facilitate paths for other Asian Americans with opportunities to connect with their culture, this project accomplishes this through fashion. I decided to showcase the beautiful design of the hanbok, which is Korea’s traditional dress. The hanbok has been worn for centuries and used to be worn daily by most Koreans. Nowadays, hanbok are still worn but mainly for formal events like weddings.

I designed six different hanboks. The designs were inspired by patterns commonly found in fabrics such as stripes, flowers, leaves, and other foliage. Deep jewel tones help highlight the elegance and beauty that the hanbok represents in Korean culture.

In addition, I also designed a matching postcard for each stamp to help ground the project and give the stamps somewhere to live. The postcards feature photography of the actual fabric to help give viewers a real-life example of the stunning fabrics found in hanboks.
